IT: La maggior parte della carriera di Lucia D’Aleo si è svolta come Addetto Stampa, Editor delle pubblicazioni in lingua italiana e traduttrice presso la FAO, l’organizzazione delle Nazioni Unite che si occupa della lotta contro la fame e la povertà nel mondo, promuovendo lo sviluppo agricolo, ittico e forestale per aiutare le popolazioni più svantaggiate a raggiungere l’autosufficienza alimentare ed economica.
Gli anni trascorsi alla FAO sono stati per lei intensi e ricchi di stimoli, incontri e crescita professionale; tuttavia, nonostante la sua abilità con le parole e le relazioni, un senso di vuoto e insoddisfazione l’ha accompagnata costantemente. Aveva dimenticato la propria natura più autentica, quella che da sempre la chiamava verso l’arte.
Per anni ha continuato a lavorare con le parole, anche come libera professionista nell’ambito dell’ufficio stampa e del copyright. Tuttavia, come insegna Platone, l’anima porta con sé una vocazione originaria che cerca di manifestarsi attraverso il corpo e la mente. James Hillman, nel suo Codice dell’Anima, riprende questo concetto sostenendo che la vocazione è una qualità innata, e realizzarla è la missione di ogni individuo. La mancata realizzazione di questa chiamata profonda ci rende esseri incompiuti.
Questa è stata anche la storia di Lucia D’Aleo, fino a quando, nel 2023, ha finalmente scelto di permettersi di essere ciò che è sempre stata: un’artista.Oggi Lucia D’Aleo è una pittrice astratta, nata a Trapani e cresciuta tra la Sicilia e Roma, città che ha lasciato alla fine del 2022 per tornare alle proprie radici. La sua arte è il frutto di un risveglio: come una cellula dormiente che, destandosi da un lungo sonno, ricorda il sogno e decide di realizzarlo senza più compromessi. Diffidava del motto “Non è mai troppo tardi”, ma oggi, con una nuova consapevolezza, sa che il tempo della verità è sempre adesso. Il ritorno in Sicilia è stato per lei un abbraccio con una terra di bellezza selvaggia e luminosa, ma anche ferita.
I colori, le luci e la natura sconfinata dell’isola le hanno restituito il senso profondo delle radici — strumenti che ci legano al nucleo della vita, ma che possono diventare catene se non impariamo a trasformarle in ali. Pur non avendo un’educazione artistica formale, Lucia D’Aleo ha riscoperto un patto segreto con la materia. Ha imparato a lasciarsi guidare dall’istinto, a utilizzare materiali che la attraggono visceralmente, a raccogliere la ruggine per strada perché diventi traccia del Tempo sulle sue tele, a creare esplosioni di colori vulcanici, a far dialogare neri profondi e rossi incandescenti, oro e luce.
Nelle sue opere, la distruzione è spesso preludio di rinascita: solo attraversando il buio si può generare nuova luce.La pittura di Lucia D’Aleo nasce da un’energia grezza e primordiale, alimentata da una forte intensità emotiva e da una sensibilità acuta verso le forze invisibili che regolano la vita. However, despite her skill with words and relationships, a sense of emptiness and dissatisfaction constantly haunted her. She had forgotten her true nature, the one that had always called her to art.
For years, she continued to work with words, even as a freelancer in press office and copyright. However, as Plato teaches, the soul carries with it an original vocation that seeks to manifest itself through the body and mind. James Hillman, in his Soul's Code, reiterates this concept, arguing that vocation is an innate quality, and realizing it is every individual's mission. Failure to realize this profound calling makes us incomplete beings.
This was also Lucia D'Aleo's story, until, in 2023, she finally chose to allow herself to be what she has always been: an artist. Today, Lucia D'Aleo is an abstract painter, born in Trapani and raised between Sicily and Rome, a city she left at the end of 2022 to return to her roots. She has learned to let herself be guided by instinct, to use materials that viscerally attract her, to collect rust from the streets so it becomes a trace of Time on her canvases, to create explosions of volcanic colors, to bring together deep blacks and incandescent reds, gold and light.
In her works, destruction is often a prelude to rebirth: only by crossing the darkness can new light be generated. Lucia D'Aleo's painting is born from a raw and primordial energy, fueled by a strong emotional intensity and a keen sensitivity to the invisible forces that govern life. The alternation of light and shadow, the use of gold and silver leaf, and the layered and engraved material reflect her faith in the duality of existence and the possibility of transforming wounds into beauty. Lucia never draws her ideas: she paints instinctively, often with her fingers, allowing the gesture to become ancestral memory.
In her most recent works, she spreads layers of color and material, then etches and chisels them, as if trying to capture on canvas the invisible connections between her inner world and the Whole.
