Angela Margherita Leotta è un’artista visiva italiana la cui ricerca pittorica esplora le dinamiche di trasformazione dell’identità.
Attraverso cicli e serie, il suo lavoro indaga il volto e il corpo come campi di tensione, in cui la figura si manifesta e si altera sotto l’azione di forze invisibili. La sua pittura si sviluppa per stratificazioni e interventi materici, dando origine a immagini in cui presenza e dissoluzione convivono in equilibrio instabile.
La sua ricerca si articola in diversi nuclei tematici — dai volti dell’interiorità (I volti dell’io, Sotto la pelle del mondo), alla dimensione corporea come luogo di pressione (Sotto impatto, la carne in tensione), fino alle condizioni di urto e attraversamento (Attraversamenti, quando l'umano cede) — riuniti da una visione comune: rendere visibile ciò che agisce sotto la pelle del mondo.
Dal 1997 espone in diverse città italiane, tra cui Milano, Roma, Como e Agrigento. Dal 2007 le sue opere sono presenti in collezioni private, tra cui quella prestigiosa dell’artista Victor Manuel Contreras a Guadalajara, Messico. Tra il 2021 e il 2024 è invitata a esporre presso Villa Tittoni,nell’ambito della Biennale d’Arte dedicata a Giuseppe Scalvini e di rilevanti mostre collettive. Nel 2021 pubblica la monografia La forza dell’inquietudine. Nel 2024 è inclusa nell’Atlante dell’Arte Contemporanea (Giunti), patrocinato dal Metropolitan Museum of Art. Tra i riconoscimenti più significativi figurano il Premio e la Targa del Museo Giuseppe Scalvini (2021) e il Premio del Curatore C. Plicato (2023).
Angela Margherita Leotta is an Italian visual artist whose pictorial research explores the dynamics of identity transformation.
Through cycles and series, her work investigates the face and the body as fields of tension, where the figure emerges and changes under the influence of invisible forces. Her painting develops through layers and material interventions, giving rise to images in which presence and dissolution coexist in an unstable balance.
Her research unfolds across several thematic cores—from the faces of interiority (The Faces of the Self, Beneath the Skin of the World), to the body as a site of pressure (Under Impact, Flesh in Tension), and to conditions of collision and passage (Crossings, When the Human Yields)—all united by a shared vision: to make visible what acts beneath the skin of the world.
Since 1997, she has exhibited in various Italian cities, including Milan, Rome, Como, and Agrigento. Since 2007, her works have been included in private collections, including the prestigious collection of the artist Victor Manuel Contreras in Guadalajara. Between 2021 and 2024, she was invited to exhibit at Villa Tittoni as part of the Art Biennial dedicated to Giuseppe Scalvini and other significant group exhibitions. In 2021, she published the monograph The Force of Restlessness. In 2024, she was included in the Atlas of Contemporary Art (Giunti), supported by the Metropolitan Museum of Art. Among her most notable recognitions are the Giuseppe Scalvini Museum Award and Plaque (2021) and the Curator C. Plicato Award (2023).
